1. Information stored on your device
Versed stores the following in its data folder on your computer:
- Your settings.
- Your listening history, which the Stats page is built from. History can be turned off in Settings.
- Plays imported from a Spotify data download, if you choose to import one. The file is read on your computer and only the play records are kept. An import can be removed from the Stats page.
- A cache of lyrics and cover images that have already been found. The cache can be cleared in Settings.
- A log file used to diagnose problems.
This information is not uploaded or shared. The log file leaves your device only if you attach it to a bug report yourself. To delete all of it, delete the data folder: %APPDATA%\app.versed on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/app.versed on macOS, or ~/.local/share/app.versed on Linux.
2. Information Versed reads
Versed reads the title, artist, album, cover image and playback position of the media currently playing, as reported by your operating system or, on macOS, by Spotify and Apple Music.
If you enable the automatic pause rules, Versed also checks whether any application is using the microphone and whether a full-screen application is in the foreground. It reads application names only and does not access, record or process audio.
3. Information sent to third parties
Versed makes the following connections. Each service receives your IP address as part of the request and processes it under its own privacy policy.
- Discord. Versed sends your status (the lyric line, song details, a cover image link and any buttons you set up) to the Discord desktop app on your computer, which displays it on your profile. Versed has no access to your Discord account, credentials, messages or contacts. See Discord's Privacy Policy.
- Lyrics services. The song title and artist are sent to LRCLIB and, if LRCLIB has no match, to NetEase Cloud Music.
- Cover image services. The song title, artist and your region are sent to the Apple iTunes Search API and to Deezer to find a cover image Discord can display.
- GitHub. Versed checks GitHub for new versions and downloads updates from it. Automatic updates can be turned off in Settings.
Songs matching your blocklist, songs from players disabled under Sources, and anything played while sharing is paused are not sent to Discord. Versed does not collect personal information, and none is sold or shared with anyone else.
4. This website
This website is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs such as IP addresses and browser details under Vercel's Privacy Policy. Your browser requests the current version number from GitHub to display it next to the download button. The website does not use cookies, analytics or third-party tracking, and its fonts are served from the site itself.
5. Age requirement
Versed is intended for people who meet Discord's minimum age requirement, which is 13 in most countries.
6. Changes to this policy
If a future version of Versed sends new information, this policy will be updated no later than that version's release, and the date above will change.
7. Contact
Questions about this policy can be submitted through GitHub issues.
